The Types Of Ruin A Revolution In Animal Farm Essays - British Films

The Types Of Ruin A Revolution In Animal Farm Essays - British Films The Types Of Ruin A Revolution In Animal Farm The Types to Ruin a Revolution in Animal Farm There are the notorious instances of Stalin and Hitler in history where somebody takes maltreatment of intensity for their very own benefit. George Orwell underscores this thought of the maltreatment of intensity through animals in his novel Animal Farm. The characters of Napoleon, Squealer, the pooches, and Boxer all represent significant kinds of individuals really taking shape and breaking of a transformation. Animal Farm contains the topic that there will consistently be some gathering of individuals who will pollute an optimistic transformation for their own benefit. The principle character in Animal Farm who exploits the more idiotic animals what's more, totally ruins the Revolution is Napoleon, a pig. Napoleon cherishes power and pursues away another pig with power, Snowball, so he can be the sole ruler. Napoleon represents the individuals of the world who will successfully be in charge. One particularly renowned case of this sort of individual is the character Macbeth from William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Macbeth killed the ruler, slaughtered honest individuals, and relinquished his ethics so as to become ruler. This sort of individual is required all together for a hopeful upheaval to be tainted. Through the character of Napoleon, George Orwell underscores that there will consistently be somebody ready to submit deplorable deeds in request to become pioneer, tyrant, or despot The pigs of the homestead are a lot more intelligent then the remainder of the horse shelter creatures and take up the activity as the scholars and organizers. Different creatures are the laborers and industriously think anything the pigs let them know. The maltreatment of intensity starts when they notice that the apples and milk begin vanishing. Sqealer, the open speaker pig, discloses this to the laborer creatures: You don't envision, I trust, that we pigs are doing this in a feeling of self-centeredness and benefit? A large number of us really disdain milk and apples. I loathe them myself. Our sole item in taking these things is to protect our wellbeing. Milk and apples (this has been demonstrated by Science, friends) contain substances totally important to the prosperity of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The entire administration and association of this ranch rely upon us. Day and night we are looking out for your government assistance. It is for the good of you that we drink that drain and eat those apples. Do you realize what might occur in the event that we pigs flopped in our obligation? Jones would come back! Indeed, Jones would return! (p52) This is just the main the start, as the pigs continue taking more for themselves and leaving less for the remainder of the creatures. In the long run the specialist creatures are more terrible of at that point at the point when they were with Mr. Jones. They are attempted to death and nearly starvation in view of the insatiability of the pigs. Orwell utilizes this enduring for instance of the degree a few people will go to for individual increase. As any peruser can see, Squealer had a significant part in this procedure. Squealer represents the advertising man who will say anything to get what he needs - sort of like a legal counselor. Squealer is the most convenient with words and can persuade the specialist creatures of anything. He is even ready to constantly persuade them that they recall things wrong. Squealer modifies the past to the accommodation of his object of worship, Napoleon. A squealer is required for any man or creatures ascend to control, to indoctrinate people in general into accepting their pioneer is god. Orwell utilizes the character of Squealer to demonstrate that there will consistently be a gathering of individuals who take a Revolution and degenerate it for their own individual addition. And afterward there are the pooches. Right off the bat in the novel , while Snowball is taking a shot at proficiency for the whole homestead, Napoleon takes a few young doggies sand raises them to be his monitor hounds. The canines represents the Secret Police or law implements that are expected to power the creature laborers, or open, to do as the pioneer requests. The pooches are answerable for Napoleons ascend to control. They admire him as an ace: It was seen that they swayed their tails to him as different mutts had been utilized to do to Mr. Jones. (p68) The canines are likewise the sort of individuals who can be handily indoctrinated into accepting that their lord is God. They are the ones who accomplish the messy work. It is incompletely the fear mongering of the pooches

Writing a College Transfer Essay

Writing a College Transfer EssayWriting a college transfer essay is a big undertaking. It may not be something you had ever planned on doing in the first place. You may also have taken all of your schoolwork into consideration and thought that you might want to go to another school after your current class has finished. Regardless of your reasoning for choosing to transfer schools, it is very important that you write a great transfer essay. Many people assume that college transfer essays are simple things to write. They are very wrong! College transfer essays require a lot of thinking and research and you need to make sure that your entire topic will be relevant to your current college. If it isn't, you can end up wasting a lot of time and possibly making a bad impression with your new school.Writing your own college essay is a huge challenge. You will want to write a complex sentence structure, long paragraphs, and extremely specific points about the things you feel are most importan t. Your audience will be a high school student who has only recently found out that they can transfer their high school classes to their new college. The last thing they need is someone who doesn't understand what they're going through. One mistake that many people make when writing a college transfer essay is to use too many personal pronouns when writing about themselves. Instead of using singular them, use the plural pronouns that you would if you were addressing a crowd of college students or professors. You should also avoid using pronouns that are in a gender other than the one you are using. You will need to make sure that you write about yourself and only yourself and never use any pronouns that the person is unfamiliar with.Speaking of the wrong pronouns, another mistake that people make when writing a college transfer essay is referring to the student by a pronoun that isn't familiar to them. The pronoun you should only be used when referring to yourself. It is good grammar to always use you and your students at all times, but it is also important to be able to be specific when using it. It is possible to write a transfer essay without using pronouns that are in a gender other than the one you are using, but you have to be very specific when doing so. There is no reason to use he/she, they/them, or they/them.When writing a college transfer essay, it is always important to stick to the correct way of writing. A lot of people are tired of hearing 'I'me' used a lot because it is incorrect. You should always use you and your pronouns whenever you are writing an essay. There are some essays that require a lot of research. These types of essays are usually quite long and involve more personal research than anything else. Students who take a lot of extra-curricular courses should always try to use a research-intensive essay to gauge whether or not they should transfer their classes or not. Even if you don't think you are going to transfer, it is always good t o be prepared. Finally, you will want to make sure that your essay doesn't just come out as canned. When writing an essay, there is so much research that goes into them that it is easy to get caught up in the whole process. If you find yourself constantly changing your mind about a certain topic, consider asking for help from a friend or family member to help you clarify it for you. You should always be able to edit your essay at least a little bit so that it fits with the way you already know it should look.

Blog Archive Mission Admission I Did Well on the GMAT, but My AWA Score Is Low! Mission Admission is a series of MBA admission tips; a new one is posted each Tuesday. You completed a GMAT prep course, studied hard, and finally “nailed” the exam. However, you later learn that your score on the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), the essay portion of the GMAT, is  low. Should you panic? In short, the answer is no. Although we have always encouraged business school candidates to do the best they can on the AWA, the truth is that we have never been told by an admissions officerâ€"nor, as far as we know, has a candidate ever been told in a feedback sessionâ€"that the AWA score is a factor in a school’s decisions. Generally, the AWA is not used  to evaluate  candidates but to detect fraud. If, hypothetically, you had  tremendous  difficulty expressing yourself via the AWA essays but wrote like a Pulitzer Prize winner in your application essays, the school would get suspicious and begin to compare the two. Not to worryâ€"the schools are not punitive and are not acting as fraud squads. Your AWA essays are expected to be unpolished, so no one will seek out your file if you did your best in both areas. However, if an  enormous discrepancy arises between the two, the AWA serves  a purpose. Pros and Cons of Earning a Masters Degree Before a PhD

As a potential applicant to graduate school you have a great many decisions to make. The initial decisions, such as what field to study, may come easily. However, many applicants struggle with choosing what degree to pursue, whether a master’s degree or PhD is right for them. Others know what degree they want. Those who choose a doctoral degree sometimes wonder if they should first complete a master’s degree. Do you need a master’s degree to apply to a doctoral program? Is a master’s degree an essential prerequisite for gaining admission to a doctoral program? Usually not. Does a master’s degree improve your odds of admission? Sometimes. Is it in your best interest to earn master’s before applying to PhD programs? It depends. Pros and Cons of Earning a Master's Before Applying to PhD Programs There are both advantages and disadvantages to earning a master’s before applying to PhD programs. Below are some of the pros and cons: Pro:  A master’s degree will introduce you to the process of graduate study. Without a doubt, graduate school is different from college. This is especially true at the doctoral level. A master’s program can introduce to you the process of graduate study and help you understand how it is different from undergraduate study.  A master’s program can help you make the transition to graduate school and prepare you for making the transition from college student to graduate scholar.   Pro:  A master’s program can help you see if you are ready for doctoral study. Are you ready for graduate school? Do you have the right study habits? Are you motivated? Can you manage your time? Enrolling in a master’s program can help you see if you have what it takes for success as a graduate student – and especially as a doctoral student. Pro: A master’s program can help you see if you are interested enough to undertake a PhD The typical college survey courses present a broad view of a discipline, with little depth. Small college seminars present a topic in more depth but it will not come close to what you will learn in graduate school. It is not until students are immersed in a field that they truly come to know the depth of their interest. Sometimes new grad students realize that the field is not for them. Others complete the master’s degree but realize that they have no interest in pursuing a doctorate. Pro: A masters may help you get into a doctoral program. If your undergraduate transcript leaves much to be desired, a master’s program may help you improve your academic record and show that you have the stuff that competent graduate students are made of. Earning a master’s degree shows that you are committed and interested in your field of study.  Returning students may seek a master’s degree to obtain contacts and recommendations from faculty. Pro: A master’s degree can help you change fields. Are you planning on studying a different field than your college major? It can be hard to convince a graduate admissions committee that you are interested and committed to a field in which that you have little formal experience. A master’s degree can not only introduce you to the field but can show the admissions committee that you interested, committed, and competent in your chosen field.   Pro: A master’s degree can offer a foot in the door to a particular graduate program. Suppose you hope to attend a specific graduate program. Taking a few graduate courses, nonmatriculated (or nondegree-seeking) can help you learn about the program and can help faculty learn about you. This is even more true for master’s students. In many graduate programs, master’s and doctoral students take some of the same classes. As a master’s student, you’ll have contact with graduate faculty – often those who teach in the doctoral program. Completing a thesis and volunteering to work on faculty research can help faculty get to know you as a competent and promising researcher. A master’s degree might offer you a foot in the door and a better chance of gaining admission to the department’s doctoral program. However, admission is not guaranteed. Before you choose this option, be sure that you can live with yourself if you don’t gain admission. Will you be happy with a terminal master? Con:  A master’s degree is time-consuming. Typically a full-time master’s program will require 2 years of study.  Many new doctoral students find that their master’s coursework doesn’t transfer. If you enroll in a master’s program recognize that it will likely not make a dent in your required doctoral coursework. Your  PhD  will likely take an additional 4 to 6 years after earning your master’s degree. Con:  A master’s degree is usually unfunded. Many students find this a big con: Master’s students usually do not receive much funding. Most master’s programs are paid for out-of-pocket. Are you prepared to potentially have tens of thousands of dollars of debt before you begin your PhD.?  If you choose not to seek a doctoral degree, what employment options accompany your master’s degree? While I’d argue that a master’s degree is always of value for your intellectual and personal growth, if the salary-return of your degree is important to you, do your homework and think carefully before enrolling in a master’s program prior to seeking your PhD. Whether you seek a master’s degree before applying to doctoral programs is a personal decision. Also recognize that many PhD programs award master’s degrees along the way, typically after the first year and completing exams and/or a thesis.

Jfk Was His Assassination Inevitable Essay - 2409 Words

A popular misconception is that President John F. Kennedys assassination was an isolated event perpetrated by one man. This could not be farther from the truth. Instead, it was the result of a complex combination of domestic and foreign events. When President Kennedy was in office, he had to deal with many issues, ranging from business and finance to crime-fighting and war issues. Perhaps it is not as important to decide who it was that killed him, but why. President Kennedys decisions and courses of action were not popular with everybody, and thus it is not surprising that his assassination was inevitable. The people who might have wanted John F. An opportunity which was not refused. Of course, the American government did not accept this situation readily. A plan to train and arm Cuban exiles who would return to Cuba to overthrow Castro was contrived. This secret operation was viewed as far less dangerous than a direct invasion by American troops. As the election of 1960 approached, the CIA had already made plans to overthrow Castro with the Cuban exiles. However, to the surprise of just about everyone, a young John F. Kennedy defeated favorite Richard Nixon by the slimmest of margins.Nonetheless, the invasion had to go on. The plan was to bomb Cubas airfields to prevent the Cuban military from killing the invading exiles. However, two things went wrong in the invasion. First, the CIA underestimated the Cuban army, and second, the airstrips were not all taken out, allowing the Cuban airforce to retaliate. Upon hearing news of this, the CIA told Kennedy that in order to succeed the US must provide air coverage for the exiles. Kennedy refused however, believing it would be foolish to provoke a crisis with the Soviets just in order to aid the exiles. The Fundamental Attribution Error The Milgram Obedience...

The Fundamental Attribution Error occurs when a person’s personality is determined based on how they act in a certain situation, but not including the situation and outside influences when making that determination. The individual could be acting a certain way based on the particular situation or social circumstances, but in all actuality be completely different in another situation. Studies show that in most cases socially we want to fit in with a group, don’t want to be different, don’t want to be wrong, and in many instances act different than what our typical personality and values are based on influencing social factors. One of the main factors that often contributes to how we act in certain situations is to obey those in authority positions. The studies provided below are examples of the show how behaviors can change based on social factors. The Milgram Obedience Study performed by Stanley Milgram proved that people are willing to following instructions gi ven by figures of authority even though the instruction could result in the infliction of pain to others and goes against their personal values. The study had three participants. The first person is the person running the study known as the authority person. The second person is a pretend volunteer who is aware of the course of the study. The third person, who is the only person not aware of the situation, would draw a paper that was fixed to make them be the volunteer of the study. Overview On Professional Ethics Acs Code Of Professional Conduct

Question: Discuss about theProfessional Ethicsfor ACS Code of Professional Conduct. Answer: Ethical Scenario The creation of code of ethics in an organization provides guidelines and acts as references to an individual when solving ethical dilemmas that may arise when carrying out the duties and responsibilities (Australian Computer Society, 2014). As a system analyst, I am supposed to uphold to the accepted ethical standards of an ICT professional before making any decisions. I will first analyze the accounts records and present them to the management. Next, I will have a discussion with management to persuade them to stop the deactivation process by explaining what may have caused them to be dormant in their engagement and participation with the organization. Deactivation of the account of the accounts is a risky step as we may end up losing some of the existing customers in our data records. Some of the customers maybe having genuine reasons as to why they are not active in the business programs. Such reasons may include personal challenges and financial problems that cause them to be do rmant for a long time. If the management accepts to implement my opinion of giving customers time to activate their accounts, I will contact and inform them about the situation and request them to frequently use their accounts to build a better customer relationship with the organization. If the management does not agree with my idea, I will move on with the deactivation process as instructed to avoid conflict of interest with the authorities. Palestinian Women Research Paper Essays

Palestinian Women Research Paper Essays Palestinian Women Research Paper Essay Palestinian Women Research Paper Essay Palestinian Women Taking Risks Israelis and Palestinians have produced a crucial conflict that has been going on since 1987 known as the Intifada. In history, their considerations, thoughts, and feelings of Palestinian women were not taken into thought when the attacks from Israel began. The Gaza Strip had violent disturbances happening between Palestine and Israel that began in early December 1967. The Palestinian’s have had two Intifada that have been violent killing millions of people and continues to go on (Rigby 1). With all the violent attacks that were going within Palestine and Israel, Palestinian women were tired of being cooped up and brought out what they are capable of. These women found out that they were more powerful than what they had imagined. The war has allowed them to discover new roles and much more through the invasion of Palestine and even though the war is terrible, it has had some positive effects on women: they are able to take risks. When Israelis started invading Palestinian’s lives, some dramatic effects and changes were added to their life, they were exposed to immense violence and started having boundaries to where they could go. Palestinian people were prevented from living in their own villages and towns. There were times that Palestinian’s workplaces were ten minutes away; it will take them from two hours to sometimes days to get there (My Home, My Prison). Palestinians economic survival has become a big issue, since they are not allowed to go into certain places; it is hard for them to find jobs and to support their family. Funds had been considerably cut down even to the events that had once benefited women. An unspecified amount of women’s organizations were beginning to struggle and day-care centers started to close down (Gluck 212). Palestinian’s lives were beginning to fall apart with all the restrictions and they were not happy: especially the women. Women had been struggling the most because of their beliefs and traditions. Palestinian women have dealt with a harsh culture, in which they usually have to endure a different life from men. In order to support their family, some families would rather have their daughters drop out of high school or not continue on to college so they could marry at a young age. Women are more sacrificed and are forced to wear more restrictive clothing than men (Gluck 212). Women’s traditional society has not yet changed since from their grandmother’s or their mother’s years. The fact still remains that men have had a higher status than women. One of the women’s main purposes in their tradition is to prepare their sons for the future in which they have to hold the responsibility of taking care of the money and the family (Warnock 20-21). The women are automatically often thought of as being a wife and needing the protection of a man. Women were looked upon as fragile and not independent of a man. According to the men, the women’s job was to be the wife, and in exchange the men would support her with food and clothing. As stated in the Palestinian belief, once a woman got married, the wife grew independent from her parents and became dependent on her husband. If her husband happened to die, she must remain with his family. But if the husband happened to leave her or divorce her, she could go back to the care of her father or a male member of the family. Throughout the year’s women have suffered through their share of hardships facing evacuation, family loss, and many more deprivations. Palestinian women went through a lot of difficulties turning them into victims; in which they had no voice and felt the preoccupation that their social position includes (Warnock 18). The women have been through pain and are often portrayed as powerless women. People did not specifically envision women taking charge and standing up for their rights and beliefs. Multiple groups of women have gathered and created committees to help other women overachieve in their ways of life. The groups and committees were made for political progress to help the innocent people make changes in their lives. Women had begun to take charge with new programs and propositions to help the Palestinian people. Palestinian women have done programs to help the Palestinians move forward. Two women separately founded a Centre and a Committee dedicated to Women’s Studies (Gluck 211). Both committees were dedicated to undertake, support all the analysis and research of whatever the activist women’s committees required (Gluck 211). Within the committees, the women accomplished different things. The Palestinian women tried to improve themselves by having discussions on books they wanted to read; they offered reading classes to illiterate the women. The committees tried to give women control over their own lives. If someone wanted to visit around their neighborhood, they would supply the people with an interpreter to go with them (Rigby 22). The committees tried their best to draw out the women’s strengths. Women started to speak out and people began to notice. Women inaugurated the movement and spoke out at the conferences about their personal experiences and life stories. Just as soon as women were becoming more open with their way of life, the women’s organizations started to stumble. â€Å"Lip service was paid to the importance of dealing with sexual harassment, wife battering, and the resumption of early marriage and dowries, but still the women’s committees seemed unable to transcend their factional differences- a problem that historically has plagued feminist-nationalist movements† (212 Gluck). Some people still had the idea of keeping women vulnerable and dependent on others. Women have been â€Å"perceived as weak, less intelligent, emotional, lacking self-control, amoral, unable to defend their families’ honour or deal with the harshness and complexities of the world outside the home† (Warnock 23). Women still took their stand and claimed that it was the women’s turn to have a say and control what they feel with no problem. With the war going on, they could not stand to be just seen as defenseless. When the Israeli army came and invaded Palestinian’s homes, they did not care who they injured, even if they were women, just as long as they got what they wanted. Once they beat a woman who was pregnant just to get her house. The Israeli army beat her so bad that she lost her baby and her home (My Home, My Prison). They had to take action and do something about it. The movement of the women had brought many opinions into the air. On January 27, 2000 the first Palestinian woman exploded herself with a bomb to only kill one Israeli and hurting about a hundred others (Baraoud 36). Women’s thoughts and actions had now been converted into something more powerful. They were also willing to provide support and stand strong within their own ideas, without being brought down. There are many different stories of woman that really took action upon this war. As the attacks kept on coming from Israel, it only made Palestinian women stronger. Raymonda Hawa Talil became more determined when the war between Israel and Palestine started getting to the extreme. Raymonda was born in Palestine and became an activist and journalist. She definitely was one of those special women who stood up for what she believed in. When the attacks got real bad for the Palestinian people, Raymonda convinced her neighbor to accompany her to a meeting. Raymonda told her neighbor that if she stood there and did nothing she will die, and if she did something she would die as well, so she might as well die doing something good. Later on both ladies convinced the mayor and the Israeli government to provide the Palestinians at the refugee camps with food. In that moment is when Raymonda started to rise and take action. She would hold meetings in her house inviting both the Israeli and Palestinian people. It was interesting enough that she was the only woman in the meetings and she was usually the one managing the meetings. Raymonda became a strong and powerful woman that she was always surrounded by journalists and was always the center of attention. The Israeli government did not like what she was doing that they put her on house arrest because she was risking military’s security. That did not stop Raymonda and she still managed to have people come to her home and keep things going. Raymonda won great admiration from all different kinds of people because she was a woman and traveled around without her husband to protect her. Unfortunately Raymonda had to leave Palestine in 1985 due to a bombing to her car, which caused her to move to Paris with her family. Raymonda never gave up fighting for her people though even when she was under the worst conditions (My Home, My Prison). Other women as well had to sacrifice things and fought for what they believed in. Umm Raqayya is a hard worker and encouraged the activism for the Seamstresses’ Union. Her house had been tear down by the Israeli army and right away she took action of looking for help. She went ahead and talked to â€Å"lawyers, the Red Cross and any other institution or agency capable of assisting the family and the community in these hard times† (Giacaman amp; Johnson 156). Raqayya wanted to make sure she was doing everything in her power to help out her people. She was one of the several of women that went against the representation of being the law-abiding woman that was required of them. Women’s participation in the activism for women’s movement was becoming important. Having to change to the political life had been something that the women started to consider and become associated with it (Giacaman amp; Johnson 157). Within the Intifada, the woman has been given the role of taking care of her family. Women are expected to elevate â€Å"community-based health care, neighbourhood education projects, the ‘home economy’ and other forms of constructive work† (Rigby 2). Before the Intifada women had a role of maintaining their family’s honour by keeping her sexual purity. If she got married, there had to be proof of her innocence. In the old days, the defloration of the women was a public event. In some cases male guests would watch through a window. Most of the time, the proof consisted of sheets with the stain of blood. Women are not able to show any skin, and cover up most of their body to confirm their celibacy (Warnock 23-31). Some women decided to take action with the conflict between Israel and Palestine. These groups were mostly the committees and groups of women that are taking a stand. There were areas where women made a â€Å"snatch squad† (Rigby 22) that were meant to rescue children and young people from the Israeli soldiers. Those women could have been looked upon as heroes and courageous standing up to the Israeli army. That was not all some group of women did; they also attacked the Israeli soldiers. The women mostly attacked the soldiers when they would hold kids as hostages. â€Å"So the soldier doesn’t know whether to pay attention to the stones or the women screaming or the boys† (Rigby 22). The only bad thing about that kind of confrontation would be that sometimes, the women would be able to get away with it. Women are beginning to have a voice and take charge. Having both the Intifadas happen has made women take a stand and actually try to fight it off. Even though it may not seem as if they are not doing much, they really are. Palestinian culture expects a woman to just be a housewife and not really do much. But with the woman making committees and organizing different kinds of events without the help of man, is a big step they are taking. Palestinian women are willing to sacrifice their lives for what they believe in; they are taking risks that no one ever thought they would. Not just women are taking a stand but they are influencing kids as well. There is a song that they sing to support the Palestinians: Give me the flag of Palestine To wear on my forehead If they ask who I am I’m Palestinian. Put poison in my food; I’ll eat it If they imprison me I will not care. My prison is small. My victory is great. -Kids from Palestine (My Home, My Prison)

The Correlation Between Energy Reduction During The Operation Of A Essay

The Correlation Between Energy Reduction During The Operation Of A Building And The Carbon Footprint Of It - Essay Example In addition, the carbon footprint of a building is dependant on the dimensions of the proper coordination of the forms and space put in place over the time. This means that during the construction, the design should aim at energy reduction so that the amount of carbon footprint is reduced significantly. Modern housing design is a work aimed at satisfying customers need, setting measures of transforming the world by the architectural work and ensuring the quality of buildings (Bentley, 1999). In this regard, the design and transformation heavily rely on historical background and knowledge of the performers to make sure that the amount of carbon footprint is kept at manageable levels. Building design and transformation could be enhanced by applying a typological approach to analyze them, their evolution and the perspective of growth of architecture discipline. Therefore, this essay focuses on the correlation between energy reduction during the operation of a building and the carbon foo tprint of it. Buildings and Planning The amount of trapped energy must be reduced to eliminate carbon footprint of buildings and enhance their stability as well (Retail Forum for Sustainability, 2011). The cities are amalgamations of different types of buildings round, stories and flats, thus safety concerns such as reduction carbon footprints is paramount (Smith, 2005). The buildings are constructed in away that satisfy all the population strata in terms of safety, economic situation, gender, and age. Toward the residential areas are the shops, supermarkets and merchandises which supplies the peoples needs at the residential areas. The buildings are served with social amenities such as the clubs, churches and schools (Davreu, 2008). The Latest Building Designs and Energy Concerns Modern housing design transformation is spreading across the world at a high rate; this could be seen with the sprawling of modern cities in England like the Poun-dbury (Bentley, 1999). Therefore, increasi ng the need for adequate education on energy reduction is necessary to eliminate carbon footprint of buildings and enhance their stability (Forester, 2007). Achieving zero-carbon buildings is expected to be another exemplary work of architects, and must be ensured when the building is under construction. Other cities include the Vancouver of Canada, the Orchid Bay of Belize, the McKenzie Building and Val d’Europe of East Paris has been constructed in a manner that significantly reduced trapped energy (Wheeler, 1998). This was an attempt to eliminate carbon footprint of those buildings and enhance their stability. In addition, energy reduction ensures sustainability of the buildings and sustainable development (Yudelson, 2009). Apparently, sustainability and sustainable development in building construction is a term mostly applied by building planners’ inconsideration environmental and demographic factors which influences building set up. As compared to early population , the modern population has increased in population as well as change in their social economic activities (Forester, 2007). For this reason, building planners must develop a mechanism to cater for space in the building centers as well as the increase in trend over environmental pollution and safety concerns. In addition, the planners should address issues tied with social resources, pollution in the building centers, energy reduction, climate changes and building heat islands to eliminate carbon footprint of buildings and enhance their stability (Retail Forum for Sustainability, 2011). Sustainable development should be created in away that the short and long-term healthy growth of a building centre should be maintained (Smith, 2005). This takes the aspect of effective

Giving reasons for conversions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Giving reasons for conversions - Essay Example t their pride and their love for their specific religions, but instead had to do everything behind closed doors and away from the eyes of the Muslims. If Christians and Jews converted to the religion of Islam, they would be able to be more open and obvious about their devotion to that religion. Those that are not Muslim must abide to the rules, or the pact, that was set down. If they were to violate the conditions that were agreed upon, their protection would be forfeited and they would receive the same treatments as enemies. Some of the rules, agreements, and conditions that were met involve what Muslims can do, but what Christians and Jews are not allowed to do. Christians and Jews are not allowed to have their crosses and books visible while walking on the roads or in the markets of the Muslim people. They are not allowed to publicly perform any act of their religion, such as the ceremony raising of their voices when following their dead or ring the rattles or bells that summons people to their religious services and ceremonies. It is against the pact for them to convert anybody to their religion, but if one of their own wishes to convert to the Muslim religion, they are not allowed to go against it. Non-Muslims are unable to build churches, convents, and monasteries in the areas of the Muslims, not are they allowed to repair any ruins that are in the areas of the Muslims. They must not bury their dead near the sites of Muslims. It also goes against the pact that Christians and Jews wear clothes similar to the Muslims, or speak in the same way that they do. Those of the Christian or Jewish religion may convert to the Muslim religion because it makes life a little bit easier, with less rules and laws to follow, and a lesser chance of going against the pact. The people in the opposing religions are given â€Å"privileges,† or the chance of safety if they give up their freedoms to an open religion. The Muslim religion offers more freedom in their own religion,

What Literacy Means Essay Example for Free

What Literacy Means Essay For me literacy is very important and has a really strong impact in my life. When I was a kid I remember my father always telling me â€Å"the more you know the better it is†. I never really understood what he meant nor did I pay that much attention. I must admit that I was pretty rebellious back in those days, I wanted to be independent, I dropped out college in my freshman year, started partying, binge drinking, to sum it up I just didn’t wanted to listen or take any advice from my parents or the people that cared for me. They saw the mistakes I was making and the destructive path I was heading to, it was like they were foreseeing the future. It wasn’t until I left my country (Dominican Republic) to live in the united states that I understood what they were trying to tell me, out all the advice they gave me I could only remember the say that my father used to tell me. Society has proven time and time again, it will reward those individuals who are competent and impede those who are not, whether expressed in terms of employment opportunities (job success) or just on a social level. One needs look no further than their everyday activities in order to realize how important literacy is. Without adequate literary skills one may not be able to identify on a label the correct amount of medicine to give a child, or read and interpret a sign giving instructions on what to do in case of a fire. These two examples bring perspective to literacys importance. Nevertheless, recent surveys have indicated that, 4. 5 million Canadians, representing 24 percent of the eighteen-and-over group, can be considered illiterate (Adult Illiteracy 5). Illiteracy is truly a problem within Canada. Although many groups are working to render the problem of illiteracy, much work still lies ahead. As our society moves on into the next century literacy is proving vital to economic performance. Without basic literary skills in ones possession they will become lost in our rapidly changing society. The modern worker must be able to adapt to the changing job-scene. This often means gathering new skills and knowledge from printed material, whether instruction manuals, computer programs, or classroom training (text books). It is quite commonly the case that highly skilled jobs require a high level of literacy. Therefore, literary skill level is an important factor in predicting an individuals economic success. It will affect an individuals income, their employment stability and whether they even receive employment opportunities. Presently, our world revolves around literacy. Simply being literate allows one to continuously upgrade ones literary skills to a higher level. It allows one to stay informed of happenings in and around the world through mediums such as newspapers and magazines. Knowing current news about what is going on in this ever changing world of ours is the key to staying ahead. Another thought to ponder is this, we rely on those with high literacy levels to record and document findings and happenings for future generations to reflect on. These writings would most likely be dull and inaccurate or would not exist at all without our current levels of literacy. When viewed from a social standpoint, literacy remains just as important as when viewed from the economic standpoint. Linda Macleod of the National Associations Active in Criminal Justice, points out that, 65 percent of people entering Canadian prisons for the first time have trouble reading and writing, low literacy is part of a constellation of problems that can limit choices in life and thus lead people to criminal activity (20). Somebody in possession of a high level of literacy will most likely be well informed and tend to make wiser decisions. By obtaining this level of literacy they have also gathered a large vocabulary giving those many words to choose from to express their ideas and feelings. Conversely, many would agree that a conversation with one who has a good grasp of the English language is always more delightful than with one who is less educated. Literacy can act as a window, opening ones view to the world. Presently, we are being bombarded with information, news, trivia and gossip (not that this is always a positive feature in our lives). Without sufficient literary skills one cannot even absorb any of this information. These people will miss out on many of lifes benefits, socially as well as economically. Without sufficient literary skills one would have a tremendously difficult time functioning in our current world. Think about your average day, consider how many times you refer to your literary skills to aid you, could you function without those skills? Finding an address, reading a map, reading a menu, performing a bank transaction, these are just a few common tasks that require your literary skills. Also, when looking at the importance of literacy to our nation, its value is evident. High levels of literacy throughout all sectors of Canadas workforce are necessary, low  literacy levels of workers affect Canadas ability to perform in the increasingly competitive international marketplace (Literacy 7). Literary skills become building blocks. By first creating a well-educated society, then a highly skilled labor force which can compete and adapt to the changing market. These factors lead to an increase in economic growth within the nation which in turn, results in a higher standard of living for its people. As our society moves forward into the future, a higher level of literacy will become more important to ones level of success. Where would our society be without our ability to exchange knowledge and information? How many times have you made a purchase that read on the outside instructions inside? You and I think nothing of this, and in a sense take our gift for granted. For many, deciphering written instructions is a near impossible task, asking for assistance does little more than to further lower their self esteem. Literacy is important. To truly seize the benefits possible in ones life it has to be accepted that literacy is the key. Society will continue to reward skilled individuals and disadvantage those who are not.

An Enemy of the People, Waiting for Godot and Civilization and Its Disc

Science and Human Values in Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, Beckett's Waiting for Godot and Freud's Civilization and Its Discontents Throughout the centuries, society has been given men ahead of their time. These men are seen in both actual history, and in fictional accounts of that history. Aristotle, Copernicus, Galileo, Bacon, and even Freud laid the framework in their fields, with revolutionary ideas whose shockwaves are still felt today. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and so society has also possessed those how refuse to look forward, those who resisted the great thinkers in science and civilization. The advancement of science and technology is like the flick of a light switch; research may be slow and tedious, but once discoveries are made, they are not long hidden. In contrast, advancement in the ideas of ethics and human values come slowly, like the rising of the sun; there are hints at advancement for a long time before the next step is ready to be made. Because of this, science and technology takes off in leaps and bounds before human values have awakened to find society moving again. This race between science and human values is a common theme in literature. Sigmund Freud discusses it in his essay Civilization and Its Discontents, bringing up themes later reflected in Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. In the more concrete story line of Ibsen's An Enemy of the People one finds intertwined this same conflict. It seems generally agreed that science and technology are winning in this race, at the expense of humanity. But there is less agreement as to just what to do about it, or what is needed to save humanity from its own scientific advances. Sigmund Freud breaks t... ...rson with the right balance of science and people skills can help slow science down and awaken the ideas of human values in people regarding scientific advances in human genetics. If human values are to keep up with scientific advancement, there needs to be not complacency but action. Freud saw both science and the search for happiness rooted in the outlet of energy from repressed instincts. The continual recharge of this energy promises to keep the race between these two forces going. As expressed in Ibsen's play, it seems the key to a thriving society is to let neither science nor human values get too far ahead. Works Cited: Beckett, Samuel. Waiting for Godot. What Is Worth Fighting for?

Jordan Jackson Mrs. Bugg English351 2/15/13 Family Is Worth Fighting For How is family important to you? Family is important because they are our family, they support us in everything we do, they are always there to protect us, they are there to stand up for us, they are always there for us , they will always be our family members and they will always love us. So shouldn’t we fight for them? Some people have a hard time even starting families on their own, some families are going through financial obstacles, but they will always be a family and they will always stick together.Family is worth fighting for. Families in the military have a hard time adopting children because of the constant moving around all the time whether it is in the states or in a different country. Adoption hasn’t been easy for those families in the military. â€Å"The issue of relocation is one of the major problems our families have faced when they are considering adoption, â€Å"confirms Al Smit h. Families in the military probably have a family but if they want to adopt a child it is going be hard for them. Many people in the military don’t have time to actually produce kids on they’re own so they want to adopt but it’s hard. Al Smith started a foundation where people in the military can adopt kids without having any issues with traveling. Families who have financial difficulties have trouble providing for their family. Sometimes they have a hard time even putting food on the table. Families with a large amount of children have a hard time supporting their family especially if the parents don’t have a good paying job.In some families the parents don’t even have a job. One of the biggest causes of financial issues is job loss. Sometimes one of the children or one of the parents get very ill and paying for all the medical bills can put financial stress on a family. Sometimes parents have to have more than one job to provide for they’r e family. Even when the kids get old enough to have a job they have to get a job to help provide money for their parents to pay the bills and to help put food on the table. Families even have to go through poverty. Today the poverty rate in the U.S. is the highest it’s been in 17 years, affecting some 46 million people. The economy is the main reason why the poverty rate is so high. ( Struggling Families Lift Themselves Out Of Poverty. NPR. org ) Families in poverty have nothing but the other people in their families to depend on. Immigrants that come to America to start a new life most likely start out with financial issues and they are in poverty. Maurice Lim Miller started a foundation to help get families out of poverty. This foundation helps the parents of this family to get back on their feet. They help the families get jobs, they feed the families, they house the families, they give the families clothes to wear. This foundation has helped many families get out of povert y. Some families go through domestic violence and the children have to deal with that for as long as the other parent is willing to deal with the abuse. It affects everybody in the family whether or not they are getting abused or not. It affects the children by having to see and deal with one of their parents or siblings going through that abuse, and sometimes the family has to move away from the place they grew up in to a new place. It affects the mom or dad by not knowing how to deal with the situation and even if they did know how they would have to move out of their house and leave the person that is the parent of their children. Women that are involved in domestic violence have to go to domestic violence shelters with they’re children. Domestic violence doesn’t have to be actually hitting the other person, it could be taking away the other person’s money. Keeping the money away from the other person can stop that person from paying bills and providing for th ey’re family.Family member’s that are going through abuse should be able to go to they’re other family members for advice on how to get out of that situation or for a place to stay to get away from that person abusing them. In conclusion families have to deal with many types of things like poverty, domestic violence, having trouble adopting. At the end of the day they are still a family and they have to push through whatever they are dealing through and be there for each other when they need it the most.Families have to make it day by day and deal with issues that come up, love each other even when they make wrong choices, be there for the other family member when times get hard and be there for them through the good times. Enjoy the time we have with our family now because life is short. Family is important, how are we willing to fight for them? Government s Financial And Political Interests Coming...

All over the world, we have been facing challenges regarding the government’s financial and political interests coming before citizens’ rights. One of the most recent hazardous situations happened here in the U.S.A. The government failed to keep Flint’s population safe as evidenced by the poisoning of their water. Approximately 100,000 people live in Flint, Michigan according to the 2010 census (Wikipedia, 2016). It is the largest city and the County seat of Genesee County, Michigan, along the Flint River (Wikipedia, 2016). This city became an automobile-manufacturing powerhouse for GM’s Buick and Chevrolet divisions after World War II. Both companies were founded in Flint (Wikipedia, 2016). Unfortunately, the city is also known for its†¦show more content†¦Because of Flint’s financial problems, the city was under the control of a person named by the Michigan State and the most important mission was to cut expenses and save money in order to put the city back on track in its economic situation. Flint was the county that was paying the most in water, so it was decided to turn off Detroit’s system (100 km northeast) and start to get water from Flint’s River. Because of this switch in water supply, water consumption had a huge impact on the citizens’ lives. In September 2015, a citizen asked the state to test the water, which led to other inquiries from other scientists. Virginia Tech University analyzed the water and found out that the lead quantity was higher than the amount of water in proportion. The water could not even be called water anymore; they named it as â€Å"toxic water.† Meanwhile, people started to get very sick. The health services declared an emergency situation because of the high levels of lead in the population’s blood system and all the illnesses that happened after the switch in the water supply. Some of the effects of lead in the body in a long-term buildup cannot be predicted and it can remain in bones for years after exposure. Besides of the lead poisoning, glyphosate was found in high levels in food. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide and in high levels can cause cancer. The lead exposure persisted for 17 months. Undoubtedly, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency covered up the
